Reyna Barbaresco DOCG 2022
Vineyard
The vineyards of Reyna lie on steep hillsides in Barbaresco and Neive, facing southeast and southwest. The soil is bluish-grey calcareous clay marl with a good presence of microelements, with more sand in the Barbaresco vineyard.
Vintage
The 2022 vintage was challenging. Overall, it was warm and dry, with high temperatures and a long summer with scarce rain. The water shortage was so severe that the Regione Piemonte issued a waiver to allow vineyard irrigation. Harvest was early, with grapes that revealed excellent qualities.
Production
Grapes were harvested an average of 10 to 15 days later than normal, resulting in extremely rich musts high in sugar and lower in acidity. Temperature-controlled fermentation followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine aged for 18 months in large casks of French Allier and Slavonian oak, followed by aging in bottles.

Tasting Notes: A very floral style focused on roses with overt red cherries and balsamic. Slightly earthy. This has medium body and crisp acidity, showing good fruit definition supported by firm, dusty yet ripe tannins, still young at the moment. It will need time to soften. Try from 2026.
